Prairie Hills is an Illinois nonprofit, U.S. IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Prairie Hills was formed in 1976 by the six County Boards and six Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough and Warren Counties.

Prairie Hills creates unique programs and services in order to help you, your community or organization.
Based upon the needs and concerns of the area, two unique services have been established:
  1. Prairie Hills Forestry Consulting Service® began in 1992 to address the growing demand for professional forest services to the private and public timber industry.  Two professional foresters and a forest technician provide forestry consultation and management, tree and nut planting, timber stand improvement, timber sale administration, and appraisals.
    1. + Nearly 1 million trees have been planted on 2300 acres by Prairie Hills.
+ Landowners have received nearly $500,000 in income from our timber sales service.  This doubles the amount of money they could have received from selling direct to timber buyers.
+ Over 5000 acres of Illinois forest land have been improved through our efforts.
+ Nearly 300 acres of native prairie grasses and forbs have been planted.  We have a Truax no-till grass planter.
  2. Hunt Prairie Hills® is an outfitting service that provides a hunting experience to sportsmen for white tail deer and turkey while providing alternative income to landowners.  Over fifty hunters have enjoyed western Illinois' scenic beauty and plentiful game.  Local businesses received much needed tourism dollars from our out-of-town guests.
