The following information is intended to ease the programming FIPS codes into the Midland
model 74-200. Users should read the operations manual for the radio before programming.
McDonough County E.S.D.A. suggests that users of NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) program
BOTH McDonough County AND the surrounding counties into the radio. This will allow
advanced warning of most severe weather.
You will need to decide if you want to program McDonough County and the western counties
where severe weather might originate from, OR just McDonough County into your radio. If you
are programming ONLY McDonough County, follow steps A and B below then proceed to #2
on page 2.
- The following is a complete step by step procedure for installation of your radio. We still
recommend that you read the manual before proceeding.
- Install the back up battery and connect power cube.
- Be sure that the power is off and the AC is unplugged from the radio.
- Remove the small door with the arrow on the bottom of the radio by
sliding it in the direction of the arrow.
- Install the 9 volt battery. Observe polarity.
- Replace the cover.
- Connect the power cube to the radio and plug into a wall outlet.
- Setting the time and date. (Setting the time will allow the radio to display the
duration of a warning).
- The display should show the time as AM 12-00. If the time is displayed
press the set button on the top of the radio. (The display will start to
blink).
- Press the hour and minute buttons to set the correct time. (It is important
that the time be set for duration of warning to be displayed).
- Press the disp. Mode button to select the date.
- Press set button and the display will start to blink.
- Set the year, month and date with the buttons on the top.
- Press set when complete.
- Press the disp. Mode button until WEATHER ALRT ON is displayed.
- Programming the correct frequency and FIPS codes. (IF PROGRAMING ONLY
McDONOUGH COUNTY, PROCEED TO #2 BELOW).
- Press the WEATHER button on the front of the radio. If you do not hear
any noise, adjust the volume on the right of the radio.
- Open the cover on the top right of the radio.
- Press the program button
- Press # 5. You should hear a voice with weather information.
- If the audio is clear press yes.
- The display will display VOICE press yes. (See notes at end of this sheet).
- Numbers such as 999999 will be displayed. Press yes.
- Press 017109 (code for McDonough Co.) Press yes twice.
- Press 017001 (Adams Co.) Press yes twice.
- Press 017067 (Hancock Co.) Press yes twice.
- Press 017071 (Henderson Co.) Press yes twice.
- Press 017169 (Schuyler Co.) Press yes twice.
- Press 017187 (Warren Co.) Press yes.
- Press PROGRAM.
- The radio should now display WEATHER ALRT ON. The radio is now ready to
receive watch and warnings. When a message is receive, a series of tones will be
heard. After the tones, a voice message will announce the information about the
alert. To silence the audio, press the weather button on the front of the radio.
Do not press the ALERT button. This will shut off the WEATHER ALRT ON feature
and new watches or warnings will not be heard.

- Press the WEATHER button on the front of the radio. If you do not hear
any noise, adjust the volume on the right of the radio.
- Open the door on the top right of the radio.
- Press the program button
- Press # 5. You should hear a voice with weather information.
- If the audio is clear press yes.
- The display will display VOICE press yes. (See notes at end of this sheet).
- Press 017109 (code for McDonough Co.) Press yes.
- Press PROGRAM.
- The radio should now display WEATHER ALRT ON. The radio is now ready to
receive watch and warnings. When a message is receive, a series of tones will be
heard. After the tones, a voice message will announce the information about the
alert. To silence the audio, press the weather button on the front of the radio.
Do not press the ALERT button. This will shut off the WEATHER ALRT ON feature
and new watches or warnings will not be heard.
NOTE: The "VOICE" mode gives a tone for 8-10 seconds then a voice message when a
watch / warning is issued. IF you select ALERT instead of VOICE, a constant tone is sounded
until the off button is pressed. Be sure to press alert again so new warnings can be received.
This is an important feature if someone is not ALWAYS around the radio.
