Modems for traditional DSL

Traditional DSL service requires a modem designed specifically for DSL. Ordinary dialup modems will not work for DSL.

Below we list model numbers and sources of modems we know work with Infobahn Outfitters' traditional DSL service. Customers may obtain their DSL modem elsewhere or choose other models, but Infobahn Outfitters cannot guarantee functionality and may not provide support unless one of the modems below is used.

Sources for DSL Modems

  • Most customers qualify for free modem rental. Please inquire about current availability.
  • Infobahn Outfitters can order a DSL modem kit for you directly from Verizon. The kit includes a modem, cables, and 5 DSL line filters. Verizon will bill you $99 for the kit, and ship the kit directly to you. (Infobahn Outfitters does not receive any income from your purchase from Verizon.) This modem is a Westell Model 2200, which can connect 1 computer, via either USB or Ethernet.

Acceptable DSL Modem Models

The following DSL modem models are known to work with Infobahn Outfitters traditional DSL service. Features of these modems (for example, number of computer ports, type of connection port, and firewall capability) vary. If the modem you purchase is not a kit, you may need to purchase DSL line filters. You will need a line filter for each phone jack used for non-DSL devices (voice phone, FAX, satellite receiver, etc).
